Oliver W. and Emma W. Allen Scholarship Minister Recommendation Form
The Oliver W. and Emma W. Allen Scholarship at Valparaiso University provides annual awards to selected students who are wishing to discern how they might best serve the church in their post-college life. To be considered for an Allen Scholarship, a student must complete an Allen Scholarship application, which includes a recommendation from his/her home congregation pastor or other church worker.
Parents or close relatives may not be a recommender.
Allen Scholars at Valparaiso University are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the religious life of Valpo. They will:
Worship regularly at the Chapel of the Resurrection and/or a local congregation, study the scriptures and cultivate a life of witness and prayer;
Pursue their potential as scholars and leaders in church and society;
Register each semester for THEO-399-EV, the Church Vocations Symposium and attend the weekly Tuesday night meetings;
Attend at least one Church Vocations Retreat each year, which offers the opportunity to reflect on your sense of vocation;
Strive for excellence in academic work, maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
